6 Ways to Keep Sabbath Rest Even While Traveling

As we packed up the truck with the last-minute items needed for the trip, I couldn't wait to start our vacation as a couple. We hadn't had a vacation the year before and were feeling exhausted. We couldn't wait to experience good rest. However, our trip involved seeing the sights of many states we had not seen before. By day five, we began to feel physically exhausted, but we couldn't figure out why.We quickly realized that although we spent many hours on the road driving in the truck, we weren't getting rest because we were so excited to see different landmarks and our favorite stops. Even though we were on vacation, the stress of ongoing traffic, hot weather, and personal issues at home still weighed heavily on our souls. This causes us to feel burnt out and tired, even though we're on vacation. We are not alone. Many people still feel burned out after taking a vacation. Some people say they need a vacation from their vacation! This is because it's still trying to entertain kids, and tasks such as obtaining food and booking hotels can be quite draining, even when taking a break from the regular work schedule.Sabbath rest is just as important on vacation as it is during the regular work week. As you travel to different vacation destinations, remember that experiencing the sights and taking in all the stimuli can still take a toll on your mental and emotional health. It's essential to take a break one day a week to do nothing. This may mean relaxing for you, such as reading a fun book or taking a walk. Here are six ways to keep your Sabbath rest even while traveling:Photo Credit: ©Unsplash/Artem Kovalev

What Does it Mean to Say “I Am a Christian”?

Being a Christian means that you trust in Jesus to save you. You trust fully in His completed work on the cross, placing all of your hope in His life, death, burial, and resurrection. That means that being a Christian isn’t about trying to be a good person. And it’s not about trying to earn your way to heaven through your good works.

You may think venting helps you get things off your chest, but constantly replaying negative emotions can actually train your brain to stay stuck in stress, frustration, and anxiety. The more you focus on certain thoughts and feelings, the stronger those mental patterns become. So what can we do instead of venting? Here's what one Christian neuropsychologist recommends.

5 Resources for New Believers to Develop a Solid Faith Foundation

If you’ve recently welcomed Christ as your Savior, first—congratulations! This is the most important and life-altering decision you will ever make, so I’m joining the angels in celebrating you (Luke 15:10). Now that you are officially a member of God’s family, you have the amazing chance to live out the plan He has for your life in a way that glorifies Him.But here’s the deal: While this is a huge turning point in your life, your faith journey is just that—a journey—rather than a one-and-done affair. Every believer is growing in their relationship with the Lord every day, regardless of how long they have been a Christian. This should be a never-ending journey of growth, one that requires daily, intentional time and effort. We should never feel as though we have “finally arrived” as Christians at any point in our relationship with God, simply because there should be no end in sight! Our entire life can be an adventure of walking with Him and living for Him.However, as a new believer, it’s especially crucial to be intentional about how you will lay a firm foundation for your faith. Fortunately, there are resources created just for new Christians to help you do just that! These tools have been designed to accompany you as you first begin to develop your relationship with Christ. Here are five resources that can help you along this journey. They will support you as you study the Bible, develop your relationship with the Lord, strengthen your theology, and overall gain a fundamental understanding of Christianity.Photo credit: ©Getty Images/Oleksandr Yakoniuk

How to Have the Best Sabbath

The concept of a Sabbath is a blessing and a special gift to us as believers. I love how it says that we enter into God’s rest. If we try to rest in our own strength or apart from the Lord, it defeats the entire purpose of a Sabbath. We are not meant to just lay out and binge watch tv all day or stare at a wall. We are supposed to be actively resting with God and focusing on His love for us. This means inviting Him into the day off.

4 Ways Surrendering to God Can Radically Change Your Life

Surrendering is often associated with giving up something against our will, or a defeated wave of the white flag after experiencing loss. But Biblical surrender is thankfully the opposite. The Biblical definition of surrender is relinquishing our own\ desires and embracing God’s plan for our lives. When we surrender something to God…a habit, a vice, a relationship, a dream, etc.…we always receive something better in its place. We receive freedom from bondage and control, and freedom to become better, freer versions of ourselves. 2 Corinthians 3:17 says “Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is Freedom.” So, let’s say we surrender our right to feel happy 100 percent of the time and accept God’s leading to stay and fight for our marriage. Oh, we may decide to surrender to unhealthy eating or drinking habits. When we really say to the Lord, “Okay, I’m willing to try things your way now,” there’s always a sweet feeling of relief, despite the initial resistance and difficulty. When the fight to do or not do something against God’s will is over, the Holy Spirit takes over, enabling and empowering us to walk in His freedom.Photo Credit: GettyImages/Boonyachoat
